PKI Distinguished Lecture Series - Major General Turner
Major General Abraham J. Turner is the Chief of Staff of United State Strategic Command at Offutt Air Force Base, Nebraska.
He is the Principle Advisor to the Commander and Deputy Commander, United States Strategic Command, and Directs the Activities of the Command Staff by developing and implementing policies and procedures in support of the Command’s missions. He chairs numerous boards, and serves as Director of the Commander’s Staff.
General Turner, a native of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, earned his commission as an Army Infantry Officer through the ROTC at South Carolina State University in 1976 with a Bacherlor of Science degree in Music. He attended U.S. Army Command and General Staff College and later, while attending the U.S. Army War College, earned a Master’s degree in Public Administration from Shippensburg University, Pennsylvania.
Prior to his current assignment, General Turner was Deputy Chief of Staff for Operations, Plans and Policy, and Training, U.S. Armey Training and Doctrine Command, Fort Monroe, Virginia. Other previous assignments include serving as Commanding General for both U.S. Army Training Center and Fort Jackson, South Carolina; Assistant Chief of Staff for Operations, Coalition Forces Land Component Command, Kuwait; Assistant Division Commander for the 82D Airborne at Fort Bragg, North Carolina; and Chief, House Legislative Liaison Division, Washington, D.C.
A Ranger and Master Parachutist, General Turner’s combat experience includes a combat jump into Panama during Operation Just cause and deployments during Operation Desert Shield/Desert Store, Iraqi Freedom and Enduring Freedom.
Among his many awards and decorations, General Turner has been awarded the Defense Superior Service Medal, Legion of Merit, Bronze Star Medal, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal and Combat Infantryman Badge.
